How To Measure Bedskirt Drop

A bedskirt is a piece of fabric that hangs down from the box spring of a bed to cover the bed frame. The length of the bedskirt, or the "drop," is a matter of personal preference, but there are some general guidelines you can follow to achieve a well-balanced look.

Standard Bedskirt Drops

The most common bedskirt drop length is between 14 and 16 inches. This length is long enough to cover the bed frame and box spring, but it is not so long that it touches the floor. A bedskirt with a 14 to 16-inch drop is a good choice for most bedrooms.

If you have a tall bed frame or a low-profile box spring, you may want to choose a bedskirt with a longer drop. A bedskirt with a 18 to 20-inch drop will cover more of the bed frame and give your bed a more finished look.

If you have a very tall bed frame or a very low-profile box spring, you may want to choose a bedskirt with a shorter drop. A bedskirt with a 12 to 14-inch drop will still cover the bed frame and box spring, but it will not touch the floor.

Measuring for Bedskirt Drop

To measure for bedskirt drop, you will need a measuring tape. Measure from the top of the box spring to the floor. Then, subtract the desired drop length from this measurement. The resulting measurement is the length of the bedskirt you need to purchase.
