How To Make A Wooden Bed Frame With Storage
A wooden bed frame with storage is a great way to add extra storage space to your bedroom. It's also a relatively easy project to build, even if you're a beginner. Here are the steps on how to make a wooden bed frame with storage:
Materials:
- 8-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 6-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 4-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 3-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 2-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 1-foot long 2x4s (4)
- 1/2-inch plywood (1 sheet)
- 1/4-inch plywood (1 sheet)
- Wood screws
- Wood glue
- Clamps
- Drill
- Circular saw
- Miter saw
- Level
Instructions:
- Cut the 2x4s. You will need to cut the 2x4s to the following lengths:
- Assemble the side rails. Take two of the 8-foot long 2x4s and two of the 6-foot long 2x4s. Lay them out on a flat surface so that the 8-foot long 2x4s are parallel to each other and the 6-foot long 2x4s are perpendicular to them. Attach the 6-foot long 2x4s to the 8-foot long 2x4s using wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Assemble the headboard and footboard. Take the remaining two 8-foot long 2x4s and cut them in half. These will form the headboard and footboard. Attach the 4-foot long 2x4s to the 8-foot long 2x4s using wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Assemble the bed frame. Place the side rails on the floor so that they are parallel to each other and the headboard and footboard are at the ends. Attach the headboard and footboard to the side rails using wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Cut the plywood. Cut the 1/2-inch plywood to the size of the bed frame. This will form the platform for the mattress.
- Attach the plywood to the bed frame. Place the plywood on top of the bed frame and attach it using wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Cut the 1/4-inch plywood. Cut the 1/4-inch plywood to the size of the drawers. This will form the fronts of the drawers.
- Assemble the drawers. Take the 2-foot long 2x4s and the 1-foot long 2x4s and cut them to the following lengths:
- 2-foot long 2x4s: 2 pieces at 18 inches long, 2 pieces at 12 inches long
- 1-foot long 2x4s: 4 pieces at 6 inches long
- Attach the drawer fronts. Place the drawer fronts on the drawers and attach them using wood screws. Be sure to countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the wood.
- Install the drawers. Place the drawers in the bed frame and attach them using drawer slides.
- Finish the bed frame. Sand the bed frame and apply a finish of your choice. This could be paint, stain, or polyurethane.
Your wooden bed frame with storage is now complete! Enjoy the extra storage space and the satisfaction of building it yourself.
