How To Make A Steel Tube Bed Frame

A steel tube bed frame can be a great way to add a modern and industrial touch to your bedroom. It is also a relatively easy project to complete, even for beginners. Here are the essential aspects of how to make a steel tube bed frame:

Materials:

  • Steel tubes (1 inch diameter, 16 gauge)
  • Angle iron (1/4 inch thick, 2 inches wide)
  • 1/2-inch bolts and nuts
  • Screws
  • Wood stain or paint (optional)

Tools:

  • Welding machine
  • Angle grinder
  • Drill
  • Measuring tape
  • Level

Instructions:

  1. Cut the steel tubes. The length of the tubes will depend on the size of the bed frame you want to make. For a twin-size bed frame, you will need four tubes that are 72 inches long and two tubes that are 39 inches long. For a full-size bed frame, you will need four tubes that are 75 inches long and two tubes that are 54 inches long. For a queen-size bed frame, you will need four tubes that are 80 inches long and two tubes that are 60 inches long. For a king-size bed frame, you will need four tubes that are 84 inches long and two tubes that are 76 inches long.
  2. Weld the angle iron to the tubes. The angle iron will form the corners of the bed frame. Cut the angle iron into four pieces that are 12 inches long. Weld the angle iron to the ends of the tubes, making sure that the angle iron is flush with the ends of the tubes.
  3. Assemble the bed frame. Place the four tubes with the angle iron attached on the floor, forming a rectangle. Bolt the corners of the bed frame together using the 1/2-inch bolts and nuts.
  4. Attach the legs. Cut four pieces of steel tube that are 12 inches long. Weld the legs to the corners of the bed frame, making sure that the legs are perpendicular to the ground.
  5. Stain or paint the bed frame. If desired, you can stain or paint the bed frame to match your décor. Allow the stain or paint to dry completely before using the bed frame.

Once you have completed these steps, you will have a sturdy and stylish steel tube bed frame that is sure to last for years to come.
