How to Build a Simple Queen Size Bed Frame

Building a bed frame is a great way to save money and add a personal touch to your bedroom. This guide will show you how to build a simple queen size bed frame using basic tools and materials.

Materials You'll Need:

6 pieces of 2x4 lumber (cut to length)
2 pieces of 2x6 lumber (cut to length)
Wood screws
Wood glue
Clamps
Drill
Saw

Step 1: Cut the Lumber

Cut the 2x4 lumber to the following lengths:

2 pieces at 60 inches long (side rails)
2 pieces at 80 inches long (headboard and footboard)
2 pieces at 20 inches long (legs)

Cut the 2x6 lumber to the following length:

2 pieces at 76 inches long (side rails)

Step 2: Assemble the Side Rails

Place two of the 2x4 side rails on a flat surface, parallel to each other and spaced 60 inches apart. Apply wood glue to the top edges of the side rails and place the two 2x6 side rails on top, aligning the edges. Clamp the pieces together and insert wood screws through the 2x6 side rails and into the 2x4 side rails every 12 inches.

Step 3: Attach the Headboard and Footboard

Apply wood glue to the ends of the side rails and place the headboard and footboard in place. Clamp the pieces together and insert wood screws through the side rails and into the headboard and footboard every 12 inches.

Step 4: Attach the Legs

Apply wood glue to the bottom corners of the side rails and insert the legs. Clamp the pieces together and insert wood screws through the side rails and into the legs every 12 inches.

Step 5: Finish the Bed Frame

Sand the entire bed frame to smooth out any rough edges. Apply a coat of stain or paint to protect the wood and give it a finished look. Once the finish has dried, your simple queen size bed frame is complete!

Tips:

Use a level to make sure that the bed frame is level before attaching the headboard and footboard.
If you don't have access to a saw, you can purchase pre-cut lumber at most hardware stores.
Be sure to use wood screws that are long enough to penetrate both the 2x4 and 2x6 lumber.
