How To Make A Queen Size Pleated Bed Skirt

If you're looking for a way to add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your bedroom, a pleated bed skirt is a perfect option. A pleated bed skirt is a fabric skirt that goes around the bottom of your bed, hiding the box spring and mattress frame. It can be made from a variety of fabrics, including cotton, linen, and silk, and can be customized to match your bedroom décor.

Making a pleated bed skirt is a relatively simple sewing project, but it does require some patience and precision. Here are the steps on how to make a queen size pleated bed skirt:

  1. Measure the height of your bed skirt. The height of your bed skirt will be the distance from the floor to the top of your box spring. To measure this, use a measuring tape to measure from the floor to the top of your box spring.
  2. Cut the fabric for your bed skirt. The length of the fabric you will need will be twice the length of your bed plus the height of your bed skirt. For example, if your bed is 60 inches long and your bed skirt is 18 inches high, you will need 156 inches of fabric. The width of the fabric will be the depth of your bed plus twice the height of your bed skirt. For example, if your bed is 24 inches deep and your bed skirt is 18 inches high, you will need 72 inches of fabric.
  3. Hem the fabric. Fold the bottom edge of the fabric up by 1 inch and press it. Fold the bottom edge up by 1 inch again and press it. Stitch the hem in place.
  4. Create the pleats. To create the pleats, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, right sides together. Stitch the two long edges together, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Turn the fabric right side out and press the seam. Fold the fabric in half again, wrong sides together, and press the crease. This will create the center pleat.
  5. Divide the fabric into equal sections. To divide the fabric into equal sections, measure the length of the fabric and divide it by the number of pleats you want. For example, if your fabric is 156 inches long and you want 12 pleats, you will need to divide the fabric into 12 sections, each 13 inches long.
  6. Mark the pleats. Use a fabric marker or chalk to mark the pleats on the fabric. To do this, fold the fabric at each section mark and press the crease. This will create the pleats.
  7. Stitch the pleats. To stitch the pleats, fold the fabric at each pleat mark and stitch it in place, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Press the pleats.
  8. Attach the bed skirt to the bed. To attach the bed skirt to the bed, place the bed skirt around the bottom of the bed, with the pleats facing out. Pin the bed skirt to the box spring, using safety pins. Stitch the bed skirt to the box spring, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

Once you have finished stitching the bed skirt, you can enjoy the elegant and sophisticated look it adds to your bedroom.
