How to Build a Simple Wood Bed Frame

Step 1: Cut the Lumber

Using a miter saw, cut the lumber according to the following measurements:

Lay two 4x4 side rails parallel to each other, spaced 54 inches apart. Align the other two side rails perpendicularly at the ends, forming a rectangle. Secure the joints with 3-inch wood screws.

Step 3: Attach the Cross Rails

Place the 2x6 cross rails inside the rectangle, perpendicular to the side rails. Position one cross rail 8 inches from the headboard end and the other 8 inches from the footboard end. Screw them into place using 2-inch wood screws.

Step 4: Attach the Legs

Flip the frame over and attach the 4x4 legs to the corners of the rectangle. Use 4-inch wood screws to secure them.

Step 5: Build the Headboard and Footboard

Lay the 1x12 headboard and footboard flat and secure them to the respective ends of the frame using 2-inch wood screws.

Step 6: Reinforce the Joints

For added strength, reinforce the joints by adding triangular gussets. Cut 4 triangles from 1x12 lumber and screw them into the corners of the frame.
