How to Build a Queen Size Platform Bed with Storage

A platform bed with storage is a great way to maximize space in a bedroom, and it can be a stylish addition to any décor. Building one yourself is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend. Here are the steps on how to build a queen size platform bed with storage:

Materials List:

  • 8 pine 2x4s, cut to 84 inches long
  • 6 pine 2x6s, cut to 60 inches long
  • 2 pine 2x8s, cut to 84 inches long
  • 6 plywood sheets, cut to 24x60 inches
  • Wood screws
  • Wood glue
  • Finishing nails
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Instructions:

1. Assemble the frame:

Start by assembling the frame of the bed. Lay two 2x4s parallel to each other, 60 inches apart. Attach the two remaining 2x4s perpendicular to the first two, at each end. Use wood screws to secure the joints.

2. Attach the 2x6s:

Next, attach the six 2x6s to the inside of the frame. These will support the plywood sheets that will form the platform of the bed. Position the 2x6s evenly spaced apart, and attach them to the frame using wood screws.

3. Attach the plywood sheets:

Now, attach the plywood sheets to the 2x6s. Start by placing a plywood sheet in the center of the frame, and then attach it to the 2x6s using wood screws. Repeat this process for the remaining five plywood sheets.

4. Build the storage drawers:

Next, build the storage drawers. Cut four pieces of plywood to 24x12 inches, and four pieces to 24x10 inches. These will form the sides and backs of the drawers.

Assemble the drawers by attaching the sides and backs to the bottom pieces using wood screws. Reinforce the corners of the drawers with wood glue.

5. Install the drawer slides:

Now, install the drawer slides on the inside of the frame. Position the slides evenly spaced apart, and attach them to the frame using wood screws.

6. Insert the drawers:

Finally, insert the drawers into the frame. Make sure that the drawers slide easily and that they are level.

7. Finishing:

Once the bed is assembled, you can finish it to your liking. You can paint or stain the bed to match your décor, or you can leave it unfinished for a more rustic look.
