How to Build a Queen Size Bed Frame Out of Pallets

Building your own queen size bed frame out of pallets is a great way to upcycle materials and save money on a new bed frame. Pallets are readily available and inexpensive, and they can be easily assembled into a sturdy and stylish bed frame.

To build a queen size bed frame out of pallets, you will need the following materials:

  • 4 pallets
  • 2x4 lumber (4 pieces, each 8 feet long)
  • 1x4 lumber (4 pieces, each 6 feet long)
  • Wood screws
  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Finish (optional)

Once you have gathered your materials, you can follow these steps to build your bed frame:

Step 1: Prepare the pallets

Start by removing any nails or staples from the pallets. Then, sand down the pallets to remove any splinters or rough edges. If desired, you can also paint or stain the pallets at this time.

Step 2: Assemble the base of the bed frame

Place two pallets side by side on the floor. Then, attach the 2x4 lumber to the pallets using wood screws. The 2x4 lumber should be placed along the long edges of the pallets, and it should be flush with the bottom of the pallets.

Step 3: Add the headboard and footboard

Place the remaining two pallets on top of the base of the bed frame, making sure that the pallets are aligned with the edges of the base. Then, attach the 1x4 lumber to the pallets using wood screws. The 1x4 lumber should be placed along the top and bottom edges of the pallets, and it should be flush with the edges of the pallets.

Step 4: Add support beams to the headboard and footboard

Cut two pieces of 2x4 lumber to a length that is equal to the width of the headboard or footboard. Then, attach the 2x4 lumber to the inside of the headboard or footboard using wood screws. The 2x4 lumber should be placed about a third of the way down from the top or bottom of the headboard or footboard, and it should be parallel to the top or bottom edge of the headboard or footboard.

Step 5: Finish the bed frame (optional)

If desired, you can finish the bed frame by applying a coat of paint, stain, or sealant. This will help to protect the bed frame from the elements and give it a more finished look.
