How to Build a King-Size Platform Bed Frame with Storage
Platform beds have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their stylish, modern look, and practical design. They are typically lower to the ground than traditional beds, making them easier to get in and out of. Platform beds also have a solid base that eliminates the need for a box spring, which can save you money and space.
If you are looking for a way to add extra storage to your bedroom, a platform bed with storage is a great option. These beds have built-in drawers or shelves that can be used to store bedding, clothes, or other items. This can help you to keep your bedroom tidy and organized.
Building a king-size platform bed frame with storage is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend. With a few basic tools and materials, you can create a custom bed that will perfectly fit your needs and style.
Materials You'll Need:
- 8 (2x6) lumber, 8 feet long
- 4 (2x4) lumber, 8 feet long
- 1 sheet of 3/4-inch plywood, 4 feet x 8 feet
- 12 (1 1/4-inch) wood screws
- 12 (2 1/2-inch) wood screws
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- Paint or stain (optional)
Tools You'll Need:
- Circular saw
- Drill
- Countersink bit
- Clamps
- Level
- measuring tape
- Pencil
Instructions:
- Cut the (2x6) lumber to length. You will need four pieces that are 8 feet long and four pieces that are 7 feet long.
- Assemble the frame. Place the four 8-foot pieces of (2x6) lumber on the ground, parallel to each other and spaced 3 feet apart.
- Attach the four 7-foot pieces of (2x6) lumber to the 8-foot pieces, forming a rectangle. Use wood glue and 2 1/2-inch wood screws to secure the joints.
- reinforce the frame. Cut the (2x4) lumber into four pieces that are 3 feet long. Attach these pieces to the inside corners of the frame, using wood glue and 1 1/4-inch wood screws.
- Cut the plywood to size. Measure the inside dimensions of the frame and cut the plywood to fit. The plywood will form the base of the bed.
- Attach the plywood to the frame. Place the plywood on top of the frame and secure it with 1 1/4-inch wood screws.
- Countersink the screws. Use a countersink bit to countersink the screws slightly below the surface of the plywood. This will help to prevent the screws from snagging on bedding.
- Sand the bed frame. Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or splinters.
- Paint or stain the bed frame (optional). If desired, you can paint or stain the bed frame to match your décor.
- Enjoy your new bed! Your king-size platform bed frame with storage is now complete. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your new addition to your bedroom.
