How To Build A King Size Bed Frame With Storage

Building a king size bed frame with storage is a great way to add extra storage space to your bedroom without taking up too much floor space. It's also a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend, even if you're a beginner woodworker.

Materials You'll Need:

8 - 2x4s, 8 feet long
6 - 2x6s, 8 feet long
1 sheet of 3/4-inch plywood, 4 feet by 8 feet
Wood screws
Wood glue
Sandpaper
Paint or stain (optional)

Instructions:

Build the side rails. Cut four 2x4s to 8 feet long. These will be the side rails of the bed frame. Attach them to the headboard and footboard using wood screws and wood glue.
Build the headboard and footboard. Cut two 2x6s to 6 feet long and two 2x6s to 3 feet long. These will be the headboard and footboard of the bed frame. Attach the shorter 2x6s to the ends of the longer 2x6s using wood screws and wood glue.
Assemble the bed frame. Attach the side rails to the headboard and footboard using wood screws and wood glue. Make sure that the side rails are flush with the top of the headboard and footboard.
Add the plywood deck. Cut the plywood to fit inside the bed frame. Attach it to the side rails using wood screws and wood glue.
Sand and finish the bed frame. Sand the bed frame until it is smooth. You can then paint or stain the bed frame to match your bedroom décor.

Tips:

If you want to add drawers to the bed frame, you can do so by cutting out a section of the plywood deck and attaching drawer slides to the inside of the frame.
You can also add shelves to the headboard or footboard by attaching them to the inside of the frame.
If you're using a heavy mattress, you may want to reinforce the bed frame by adding additional support beams.
