How To Build A Basic Platform Bed

A platform bed is a great way to add a modern and stylish touch to your bedroom. They are also relatively easy to build, making them a great project for beginners. In this article, we will show you how to build a basic platform bed using simple tools and materials.

2x4 lumber (8 pieces, each 84 inches long)
2x6 lumber (8 pieces, each 75 inches long)
3/4-inch plywood (1 piece, 84 inches x 75 inches)
Wood screws (2-inch and 3-inch)

L-brackets (4 pieces)
Hammer or nail gun

Step 1: Build the Frame

Start by assembling the frame of the bed. To do this, lay out two of the 2x4s parallel to each other, 84 inches apart. Then, attach the remaining two 2x4s perpendicular to the first two, 75 inches apart. Use 2-inch wood screws to secure the joints.

Step 2: Attach the Slats

Next, attach the slats to the frame. To do this, lay out the 2x6s parallel to each other, 3 inches apart. Then, attach them to the frame using 2-inch wood screws. Make sure that the slats are flush with the top of the frame.

Step 3: Attach the Plywood

Now, it's time to attach the plywood to the slats. To do this, apply a layer of wood glue to the top of the slats. Then, place the plywood on top of the glue and secure it with 3-inch wood screws. Countersink the screws so that they are flush with the surface of the plywood.

Step 4: Attach the L-Brackets

For added support, attach L-brackets to the corners of the bed. To do this, place an L-bracket in each corner and secure it with 3-inch wood screws.

Step 5: Level the Bed

Finally, level the bed by placing shims under the legs. To do this, use a level to check the bed in all directions. If the bed is not level, insert shims under the legs until it is.
